What I have done is to carefully describe the processes involved, on a mental-emotional and at times physical level, when you are dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress in order to create insights and a framework to be able to address trauma and work through it.
In order to exert control, you need groupthink. Groupthink is pervasive, and influenced by propaganda. It does not matter where you are, be it China, Russia, India, the EU, or the US.
When you are constantly looking for validation, you might easily overextend yourself. You will cross your own boundaries to get that validation, and in the process, lose your own sense of self.
It is only when your fight-flight sympathetic nervous system starts to calm down that your parasympathetic nervous system—and thus your vagus nerve—can start to properly function again, thereby restoring balance.
When your survival strategy is to fight—in order to compensate for an internal (childhood) experience of feeling unworthy—you will be constantly on the lookout for opportunities to gain dominance and control.
Trauma activates your fight or flight responses. It causes your survival responses to be turned "ON".
